The scum do seem a little reticent to do any more than the minimum.

Okay. I'm back from my vacation and I've caught up. Interesting Day Two, but I disagree with Idle Thoughts's fondling of Telcontar. Telcontar's reaction to Idle was so glaringly obviously scum I could not believe it! Any Townie would be nearly begging Idle to touch investigate him. That Telcontar was trying to get Idle to include more people in his list of touchees was super-scummy. If I were on Idle's list I would specifically ask Idle Thoughts to investigate me because TOWNIES LOVE TO BE CONFIRMED. Town should have lynched Telcontar outright.
All in all, not terrible, but not optimal.

Yeah, like Story said, I don't particularly care how I play. So I was trying to find scum rather than confirm Town....what's wrong with that? Seemed to work out just fine in this case.
And I read (in the other thread--the one on the dope) about how I was getting a little flack for finding people suspicious who (reasonably) found me suspicious (due to the 180 on NAF), but that's not all together true. I found only three of the people suspicious who found me suspicious: Telcontar, OAOW, and Guiri. Those were the only ones. And as it is, as I find out now, all three of them are non-town....two scum and one PFK. So dislike my reasons for finding people scummy all you want, but it seems to work for me.

Yeah, like Story said, I don't particularly care how I play. So I was trying to find scum rather than confirm Town....what's wrong with that? Not wrong per se, but sub-optimal. Confirming non-deadites gives solid information to the town and doesn't have the downside of getting you killed which both removes a Town player and removes the power. It's the hidden twist of a detective. Confirming Town can be just as if not more powerful than finding scum. Furthermore, Telcontar was showing his scumness pretty hard (In my mind his behavior justified a lynch, but I must admit that everyone tends to disagree with me) so getting info on one of the other three might have been better. Then again, maybe not. Who knows?

I guess what contributed to my "Let's just try to kill off a scum" mood was the fact that I had role claimed and, as I figured, probably wasn't going to live much longer, haha.

I get Normal Phase's suspicion of Oy. Investigating NAF after Idle Thoughts already investigated him was sub-optimal, so much so that it's tempting to think it was scummy. Oy fell into the trap of being fixated on one player. Solid information existed regarding NAF. Investigating him pushed him from 98% confirmed to 99% confirmed. Not worth it in any stretch of the imagination. There are a dozen other players that need attending to. Normal Phase knows this. Normal Phase also knows that NAF is a convenient fake reveal as he has explicitly stated his ROLE NAME. I'm pretty sure no one else has done so.
Town Players keep making the same mistake of not considering how their actions will look to others. Oy's action is especially non-sensical since if NAF were a godfather able to fool Idle Thoughts, then there is no reason to believe that NAF would not be able to fool Oy. Madness I tell you! Furthermore, if NAF were a 3rd Party, there is no reason to believe that NAF would have offered his role name if it was fake. Gah!
I'm totally with Normal Phase on this one.

Upon further reflection I see why Oy did what he did. It's still a mistake, but I see the thought process. After NAF name claimed, Oy sees a shiny nail to go with his shiny hammer and could not resist using it. No other nails were nearly as bright and shiny as NAF.
Still sub-optimal, but I think that is what attracted Oy to NAF.

Reading Guiri's repost of storyteller's reveal prompted me to look at the scum role names. I take back what I said about Oy!
What she did makes perfect sense and as the game is constructed, her investigative tool is not very powerful anyway. Normal Phase is still right that Oy! should have directed her power to someone other than NAF, but Oy! wasn't going to find scum by shooting into the dark. Of the scum role names only one (Telcontar) screams 'scum,' and Idle Thoughts took care of him so that would have been an even bigger waste. Peeker's, which contains "nightmare" would probably lead to a lynch, but being already dead makes that point moot. Beyond those two, the other four are not lynchable by name only. Really the only player in danger from Oy!'s power was Cookies (Alien).

Mahaloth has a one off ability to learn the number of living scum. I'm curious as to why he hasn't used it yet. The obvious thing is to use it on Day 1 and report it on Night 1 (which, incidentally, might have saved Romanic). I'm wondering what he's waiting for - perhaps he is afraid of recruitment or something.
Any thoughts on why he hasn't used it yet?

Mahaloth just PMed me his request... he wants the number of PFK. Huh. Surprising.

The Scum are about to waste their second chance to tell the Town that they suspect that Guiri is a PFK. I really don't understand why.

I think you a biased by the fact that scum have figured something out and are correct about it. (1) If scum suspect Guiri is PFK, that is only suspicion. Do they have conclusive proof? (2) Telling Town that they think Guiri is PFK doesn't do anything. Town isn't going to believe anything scum tell them. Even if they state a compelling case against Guiri, unless there is hard evidence, and not merely the "I solemnly swear" by a scum, Town shouldn't believe it.

Mahaloth just PMed me his request... he wants the number of PFK. Huh. Surprising. That's actually not so bad. Given the fact that there will be 3 dead scum shortly, the number of Scum is somewhat easy to deal with as an unknown. They already are assuming 5 or 6 scum to start with, which they should feel comfortable with as an estimate. Unknown PFK is more difficult as the difference between 1 or 2 or 3 PFK requires more strategy shifting than that between 5 or 6 scum.

Total Lost has the power to search for the Book. If the Scum say, "we suspect that Guiri has the Book," do you really think Total has a big enough lead on the Book to just ignore that evidence? I don't think she does. I think she'd check him out, and discover that he has the Book, and then he'd be done. And even if not, at least the Scum get it on the radar, which cannot hurt them in any way.

But scum don't know that Total Lost has the power to search for the Book.
